What is it about?
This paper is a mixed methods investigation of the role of romantic partners in the management of type 2 diabetes. First, we asked patients and partners to describe how they are coping with diabetes and coded the ways in which partners are or are not involved into discrete categories. Second, we administered surveys that measure different kinds of partner involvement. We compared patient and partner responses and examined links of partner involvement to relationship quality, patients diabetes management, and HbA1c. Patient/partner collaboration showed the strongest links to good outcomes.
