Hamas between Militarism and Governance

What is it about?

The purpose of this paper is to show how this dramatic transformation was possible and to explore the roots and rationale of the transformation, examining its effects on the Palestinian political scene, and the resulting fragmentation of Palestinian society into two political and ideological - as well as geographic entities – in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. In order to predict the prospects for reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, the paper explores the impact of the events of the Arab Spring, and the significance of the signing of a reconciliation agreement by the two rivals following Egyptian mediation efforts in 2011.
