What is it about?
Women's studies have been conventionally considered as an interdisciplinary field by virtue of the intermingling of social factors affecting women. However, an analysis of scholarly work on this field reveals that a lot of barriers have come up to discourage an interdisciplinary approach. For one, there are no formal conferences where insights from varied disciplines which touch on women could be shared with other researchers. Also, the lack of a department on women's studies in higher education institutions relegates the field to a disciplinary structure, rather than an interdisciplinary field.
