What is it about?
A study of the contacts between Armenians and Kurds on the territory of today's Azerbaijan at the beginning of the second millennium. It sheds a new light on the phenomenon of religious syncretism and the process of islamicisation. The article relies on a renewed study of the manuscript tradition of the 'Admonitory Exhortations' by Dawit Alawkay Ordi, largely neglected in scholarship.

Why is it important?
The 'Admonitory Exhortations' by Dawit Alawkay Ordi are a rare source on Kurds in the South Caucasus. Their analysis allows us to reconstruct crucial stages in the Islamicisation of the region, the genesis of the Armenian legal tradition and the earliest history of the colonisation of the Caucasus by Turks.
