What is it about?

It reported and discusses the result of a survey that determines the textile waste generation at 35 different places that were mainly commercial. What are characteristics of waste produced and how it is disposed are described. The pre- consumer and post- consumer waste generated is of variable fabric sizes that can utilized in selected applications to produce the useful textile articles.

Why is it important?

1. It showed the pre- consumer waste produced at large number of commercial sites associated with the production of fashion textiles. The characteristics of the waste showed where it can be recycled. 2. The waste containing the virgin fibers is useful in producing the yarn and textile products with marketable value. 3. The textile available at no cost in many cases, and it can be incorporated in composing valuable products.

Perspectives

For public offices, and for commercial sector working in textile upcycling and recycling, this study show the clear guidelines collect the useful waste for further production. It reduces the textile waste going into the environment and therefore, reduces the pollution. The waste is currently burnt or landfilled, that can be replaced with profitable routes and pollution- free consumption.
