What is it about?

Seed policy reforms in Bangladesh and India have attracted private sector participation in the seed sector. This paper conducts a comparative analysis of seed policy reforms in Bangladesh and India and assesses how these reforms have impacted the industry structure and crop productivity in these two countries.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that there is great potential for private sector participation in Bangladesh seed sector. The paper identifies the challenges and opportunities for private sector participation in seed sector and suggests policy options worth pursuing to attract private sector participation into low-value high volume crop segments such as non-hybrid rice and wheat.
