What is it about?
United Agricultural Cooperative is a successful business with a diverse offering of products and services. However, participation in fertilizer markets is difficult. In this case study, United Ag is presented an opportunity to sell this part of the business. We consider not only if the division should be sold, but also how the decision should be made.

Why is it important?
This is a teaching case presenting an actual decision by directors and management of an agricultural cooperative. Students are benefitted by insight into decisions concerning competition, strategy, and the nature of cooperation.
Perspectives
I wrote this case study with great friend and colleague as his final effort before retirement. Of the many articles we wrote together, I think this is our best. We are committed to providing material that will enhance student learning and have a teaching note for any who would like to use it.
