VIOLENCE IN TRANSIT

Why is it important?

In the national as well as international literature there is a lack of research that portrays the various forms of violence in the media. Those with prominence turn to physical violence, with damages considered greater. Drivers remain the main drivers or motivators of traffic incidents and are still the main targets of repressive and punctually educational actions. This study, as the first investigation of this nature in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, has some similarities with other national realities, mainly regarding the cultural media aspects in the invisibles of the gender issues and in the uneven and superficial process of characterization of the subjects involved, by the absence of complementary information such as age range, color / ethnicity, schooling, occupation, national driver's license, criminal records and other relevant data. In addition, among the limitations of the study, the use of only one media, even though it is the largest in the region studied, was highlighted, and the need to compare and monitor the magnitude of the phenomena with other regions of the country, but low complicated and limited further analysis.

Perspectives

It is appropriate to invest in the use of data sources that are not well explored, such as electronic media, a proposal that is justified by their proximity to the community, which may facilitate the understanding of gaps in the process of dissemination and education about aggressive behavior in traffic and other violence.
