Imagine if the health benefits of a strenuous workout could be captured in a pill. This is the exciting possibility offered by a new experimental compound called SLU-PP-332. For millions of people with obesity, type 2 diabetes, or physical limitations that make exercise difficult or impossible, such a drug could be life-changing. This review explores the science behind SLU-PP-332, which is known as an "exercise mimetic." It works by activating a master switch for metabolism in our cells called ERRa (estrogen-related receptor alpha).
