What is it about?

In this article we show that the label direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetics is far too coarse to capture the nuances between different formats of obtaining genetic tests online; more often than not, medical professionals are involved somewhere in the process, rendering the DTC label also ill-fitting. We introduce the term beyond-the-clinic (BTC) genetics and demonstrate the wide variety of online testing services on the occasion of pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic tests.
