What is it about?
Sipuleucel-T is an immuno-therapy treatment for prostate cancer. This means that it activates one’s immune system to fight prostate cancer. It is approved for use by the United States Food and Drug Administration based on studies showing it extends survival in men with no or very few symptoms who have prostate cancer in the bones that is resistant to hormone treatment.

Why is it important?
Immunotherapy is changing the way cancer is treated. Sipuleucel-T is the only approved immunotherapy in prostate cancer.
Perspectives
The big gains in cancer treatment with immunotherapy that happened over the past 5+ years have been very disappointing in prostate cancer. I hope this article sheds light on factors that contributed to that and offers hope that the research currently being done will lead to huge advances for men with advanced prostate cancer.
