Development of a model to evaluate the effect of Croton doctoris on caries prevention

What is it about?

In this study, we developed a model to mimic dental caries in the laboratory and used this model to see if a mouthwash containing Croton doctoris essential oil was able to reduce the formation of dental caries and the formation of dental plaque.

Why is it important?

There are two important features in the present work: 1) Based on a previous study, we validated a model to mimic dental caries in the laboratory using a cost-effective culture media 2) The essential oil was added to a formulation without alcohol and at a low concentration, which means that it may be used by a wide range of patients and the risk of adverse effect is lower.
