What is it about?

Central vein catheters are common form of vascular access to provide hemodialysis. Treatment of a failing catheter from mechanical reasons can be treated with rewiring through existing tunnel or by removing and replacing a new catheter. The difficulty of studying the best treatment option with a randomized controlled trial is impractical. A reasonable approach to compare treatment options could be using a statistical method called target trial framework may be plausible using real life data. The study by Lazarus et al have analyzed a large study population from Australia using this statistical technique. The conclusion of the study is that rewiring through the same tunnel is an acceptable approach when technical skills and resources are available.
