What is it about?

The causes of hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis, while extensive, can be systematically evaluated by going through algorithms that look at the blood pressure and the urine chloride concentration, followed by a long list of secondary tests. This case is unusual in that a carrier of a genetic disease thought to be asymptomatic presented with severe metabolic alkalosis. A definitive diagnosis would not be possible without genetic testing.
