What is it about?
Our research explored the impact of sodium bicarbonate on individuals with chronic kidney disease and metabolic acidosis. Through analyzing data from 14 studies involving over 2,000 patients, we discovered that this treatment can improve kidney function and increase muscle mass. However, for patients with chronic kidney disease combined with metabolic acidosis, caution is necessary due to the potential side effect of increased blood pressure from sodium bicarbonate use. While our findings highlight the benefits for kidney health and muscle mass, they also emphasize the need for careful consideration.
