What is it about?

While strides have been made in the representation of women at the ASN podium as speakers and moderators, women in the audience asked significantly fewer questions than men (23%) and fewer than would be expected based on their estimated representation at the meeting. Women were more likely to ask questions of a woman speaker and when a woman already asked the first question. Teaching trainees how to ask questions and modeling question asking at meetings are potential interventions to improve this inequality.
