What is it about?

Critical hand ischemia following a dialysis vascular access surgery is rare but can be devastating to the patient. The complication can be prevented by proper selection of vascular access site. Patients with diabetes, peripheral artery disease and coronary artery disease are more likely to develop this complication. The vascular access can be salvaged by early detection followed by surgical or endovascular therapy. Ligation of the vascular access may be required if patient develops tissue necrosis.
