What is it about?
HIV-infected individuals are frequently prescribed tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for antiretroviral therapy. Tenofovir use has been associated with kidney damage, but the relationship of kidney damage with long-term kidney function decline after starting tenofovir is unknown. In this study, we show several urinary biomarkers of kidney injury measured around the time of tenofovir initiation are associated with kidney function decline.
