Teleconsultation at home for diabetes mellitus: perceptions from patients and physicians (Preprint)

The survey of this study was conducted before the outbreak of COVID-19. But, what was initially seen as somehow innovative (e.g., there was a primary centre physician that refused to participate in the study because they thought teleconsultations should not be studied), suddenly became a need. The paper became even more relevant than it would without the pandemic situation as it suggests paths for future research and services improvement (not only in the context of diabetes mellitus). Teleconsultations are here to stay. - It would be important to design and use them in the benefit of users/patients and services. Os dados para este estudo foram recolhidos antes do início da pandemia de COVID-19. Aquilo que inicialmente era encarado como, de certa forma, inovador (por exemplo, houve uma unidade de saúde familiar que se recusou a participar no estudo porque os seus responsáveis eram de opinião que não deveriam fazer-se estudos sobre tema) tornou-se, subitamente, uma necessidade. O artigo tornou-se ainda mais relevante porque sugere pistas de investigação futura e melhoria dos serviços (não só no contexto da diabetes mellitus). Não parece haver retorno quanto à utilização de teleconsultas. - Será importante que as mesmas sejam planeadas e utilizadas no benefício dos utilizadores/doentes e dos serviços.
