Why is it important?
The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency was significantly higher in patients with type 2 diabetes (92.3 %), diabetes and hypothyroidism (97.1 %) compared to controls (86.0 %).
Perspectives
Our data and those of others pointing to the involvement of vitamin D in the pathogenesis of hypothyroidism argue for screening for vitamin D levels in patients with hypothyroidism.
