Why is it important?
This technology is important as it enables safe mimics (pseudotype viruses) of highly pathogenic coronaviruses to be constructed and used to quantify levels of protective antibodies after natural infection or after vaccination. This technology has been used by us to make such pseudotypes for SARS, MERS and SARS-CoV-2 the virus that is responsible for COVID-19.
