What is it about?

Basil oil (essential oil of the Ocimum species) is naturally synthesized and accumulated in the peculiar glandular trichomes present on the leaf, stem, and flower

Why is it important?

A newly isolated constituent may exhibit an effective therapeutic effect in diabetes, cancer, COVID-19, neurological disorders, phytoremediation capability, etc. However, the scarcity of entire gene and transcriptomic sequences from significant Ocimum species will make it challenging to use genome-correcting tools to exploit obscure chemical constituents. The emphasis of future sacred basil research should be illness management. Previously specific recommendations for the treatment of any ailment can be made, and more stringent studies with enormous samples, longer periods, and standardized formulations are expected in the case of Ocimum species

Perspectives

Even though tulsi is known as the spirit of life, still there is lacking specific information regarding the single formulation which targets any peculiar pathological condition. In the recent decade, advanced economic technology expansion has been employed to explore the new chemical constituent in Ocimum species.
