What is it about?
Nanomaterials have revolutionized many fields of science. The current article is a review of the uses of nano pesticides, nano fertilizers and nano bionics (which is like inserting nanochips into plant cells and getting in-situ status of the plant microenvironment).

Why is it important?
The biggest advantage of nanoparticle is its size; nanoscale materials allowing maximum surface - volume ratio thereby increasing the interactions with materials it encounters. This sole property is exploited in various domains of agriculture by maximizing the efficacy with minimum resources in a sustainable manner.
Perspectives
Agriculture is one domain where there is a perennial need for more productivity from resources which are getting scarcer. This article depicts how best nanomaterials can be used to improve crop yield and mitigate plant stress by real time monitoring and taking quick corrective measures. With resources getting depleted and demand for food getting higher, nonconventional strategies like nanotechnology is indeed the need of the hour.
