What is it about?

Fracture healing is affected by three main factors: 1- Mechanical : stability and reduction and alignment 2- Biological: Cell ability to build new bone, local bone blood supply, and general health 3- Bone infection can affect the ability of bone to heal. Orthobiologics and the use of local cell and growth factors in enhancement of fracture healing can improve the local biological conditions at the fracture site.

Why is it important?

Orthobiologics and the use of growth factors and cells to enhance fracture healing is a promising developing field in orthopaedics and we expect a great role for orthobiologics in the future.

Perspectives

further research is needed to improve the efficiency of the techniques used in orthobiologics and to help treating physicians in proper patient selection and techniques
