Why is it important?

The choice of the appropriate prophylactic drug may prevent a recurrence of affective and schizophrenic symptoms. One example is given: the mood-stabilizing drug lithium can prevent recurrence of affective symptoms in one third of the patients.

Perspectives

By chosing an appropriate prophylactic drug, the patients who can find support by psychoeducation can have a better outcome of the disease.
