What is it about?

In obese patients, strict diet may help in weight loss without improvement of glucose uptake. Conversely, estrogen treatment helps weakness and restoration of metabolic health. Estrogen regulated genes help all phases of insulin assisted cellular glucose uptake.

Why is it important?

Obesity is a serious disease worldwide with serious health risks. Improvement of estrogen supply and estrogen signaling may help to avoid pathologic obesity and its associated diseases. Menopausal hormone therapy studies reveal a decreased breast cancer risk in hormone user obese women, while they are usually treated with false synthetic estrogens. Premarin, an estrogen formula with natural origin may be an appropriate treatment against obesity in older women.

Perspectives

In obesity, estrogen therapy is the key to decrease the incidence of obesity associated serious diseases.
