Why is it important?

The period when Lactarius mushrooms contain milky juice, they are practically undamaged by animals, molluscs and microorganisms. These substances may be of interest for their use in agriculture and medicine.

Perspectives

Our research showed that the milky juice of Lactarius Pers. kind is a stable balanced emulsion containing a large number of substances. One part of them is responsible for the toxic effect on other organisms, and the other part determines the chemical stability of the emulsion. Together, they create an effective system of protection of Lactarius mushrooms from microorganisms, insects, molluscs and animals. Thus, nature has many ways to protect living organisms. Hopefully, this can help the development of new protection systems in agriculture and medicine.
