What is it about?

Heterogeneous catalyst which can be easily isolated after completion of the reaction. Thereby facilitating easy purification of the desired products. In addition solid phase synthesis using polymeric catalyst is advantageous due to low moisture sensitivity.

Why is it important?

The heterogeneous catalysis can be easily isolated by filtration and can be reused several times without loss of its activities. In addition our method is highly selective in favour of the less sterically less hindered alcohols

Perspectives

Highly selective synthesis is in huge demand in organic chemistry. This paper presents a highly selective iodination of alcohols using solid phase organic synthesis (SPOS) technique. The whole processes is very simple and takes place under room temperature, the catalyst used is easily prepared by simple mixing of polymer bound triphenylphospine and ethyl acrylate.
