Why is it important?

The review is important as a ready reference for researchers working on medicinal plants. A wide variety of phytoconstituents with various activities like hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, antioxidant, hypolipemic, antirheumatic, anticarcinogenic and antiviral activity, make the plant a good candidate for herbal drug delivery research. A huge population is also consuming this plant as tea (nettle tea) for a variety of health benefits.

Perspectives

This work was the outcome of several Ph D, M Pharm dissertations and funded projects by UGC and AICTE. We had worked on the plant for antioxidant, antihyperlipidemic and for hair growth promotion activity in androgenetic alopecia.
