What is it about?
A fixed combination of probiotics and matricaria recutita extract was found to be an interesting candidate for targeting the re-establishment of intestinal barrier function in IBD conditions. A protective effect was observed on TEER and paracellular permeability, as wel as on tight junctions translocation.

Why is it important?
This is the first study in which a combination of probiotics and herbal extract was successfully demonstrated to prevent intestinal barrier damages from inflammatory stimulation
Perspectives
Further studies will focus on the mechanism of action and on cytokines production in LPS-stimulated THP-1-Caco2 coculture.
