What is it about?

Activation of tumor angiogenesis is associated with the recruitment of endothelial progenitor cells from bone marrow to the bloodstream. In this paper, we studied the relationship of free (unrelated to the wall of vessel) CD34 positive cells located in the lumen of tumor vessels with features of tumor vessels, clinical and morphological characteristics of breast cancer.

Why is it important?

The presence of CD34-positive cells in the lumen of tunor vessels was associated only with certain types of vessels and structures: atypical dilated capillaries and structures with a partial endothelial lining.

Perspectives

I hope that our results will help in understanding the mechanisms of tumor angiogenesis and will contribute to the assessment of the predictive significance of different types of tumor vessels when the planning of targeted therapy.
