What is it about?

Quality assurance has long been a formidable challenge in public health care in India, particularly in the state of Kerala. Efforts have been made in recent years to develop adequate standards and assess their application, but it is still not widely understood by clinicians and practitioners. The article outlines how this was accomplished at one hospital in Kerala, as well as how the findings can be applied to other parts of patient care and development of health care system.

The success of any healthcare institution depends on the professional practice by its staff and at the same time we feel that the quality assurance in the field of healthcare has to be supplemented and exemplified by successful models. The involvement of a doctor in a particular health centre could bring in miracles in the local social and economic development. Such models should be meticulously understood to create an awareness about how proficiently the medical practitioners can take up their duty to the overall care of the community they are entrusted. The article gives ample insights into what has taken place in the life of a doctor in his vision to render quality healthcare through his services.

Perspectives

Dr Shahirshah is one of the most influential person in my life. He heals people by his mere presence and he has a unique way of treating them. I am proud to have interacted with him, he is a visionary doctor who just helps people feel better. He is a very knowledgeable, compassionate doctor who dismisses all the unnecessary procedures and focuses on healing people's pain and ailments using his knowledge, experience and wisdom. Dr Shahir always provides an open-minded environment where one can discuss with him about any aspect of medicine or life in general as well as listen to him share personal experiences related to health care issues.
