What is it about?

The research paper presents findings on differential settlement of reinforced concrete building structure caused by variation of moisture content for foundation soils, a case of Nairobi, Kenya.

Why is it important?

Research findings presented are important for construction sector stakeholders during design and construction of buildings located in areas prone to variation in soil moisture content. The study shows that variation in soil moisture content by over 50% during the building's lifetime leads to structural failure may lead to collapse of buildings.

Perspectives

Available information show that 30% of buildings that collapsed in Kenya in the last 15 years were attributed to foundation and water challenges. I hope this research will make a good contribution towards reducing collapse of buildings in Kenya and globally.
