What is it about?
A research on rats to show the effect of pre-administration of either NAC or atorvastatin to protect the kidneys from imipenem-induced nephrotoxicity, through their antioxidant effects.

Why is it important?
Imipenem has played an important role in the treatment of broad-spectrum bacterial infection. However, nephrotoxicity due to imipenem remains an important clinical challenge. The study test the hypothesis stating that N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) and atorvastatin possess a nephroprotective effect against imipenem-induced nephrotoxicity and show that pre-administration of either NAC or atorvastatin protects the kidneys from imipenem-induced nephrotoxicity, through their antioxidant effects.
