This is a case series of patients with serious pulmonary conditions with Candida as the primary cause of their chronic sputum. There was improvement with treatment.

This should help raise awareness that Candida in pulmonary secretions sometimes can cause serious medical problems.
Perspectives
Candida is typically ignored when present is pulmonary secretions. Yet as this case series demonstrates, there are some patients in whom Candida is associated with significant morbidity and sometimes mortality, and who markedly improve with treatment for the Candida. Further studies are needed.
