What is it about?
Spirometry reference equations are provided for many parameters including flow over volume such as PEF/FVC. Caucasian and Mexican American values were similar so are combined, with African-American different.

Why is it important?
There is much more to spirometry than FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC. Having reference equations that fully describe spirometry allows much better assessment including of restrictive and interstitial lung disease.
Perspectives
With recent recommendations for race-neutral reference equations, weighting these equations as 2/3 Caucasian/Mexican American and 1/3 African-American matches GLI equations for FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC.
