What is it about?

equol is a metabolite of daidzein that is more potent than daidzein itself. The effect of equol on endothelial function and oxidative stress remains unclear. This paper determine the effect of soy isoflavone on endothelial function (VCAM-1 and NO) and oxidative stress (MDA) in equol producing postmenopausal women

Why is it important?

Individual capable of metabolizing isoflavones into equol called equol producers. Our findings show that after 6 months supplementation the MDA concentrations were significantly lower in the soy isoflavone equol producers compared with equol non producers.
