What is it about?
By stabilizing their calcium homeostasis, motor neurons may be protected in stress conditions.

Why is it important?
Our findings point to a potential tool which could be used in efforts delaying the development of chronic degenerative diseases of the nervous system.
Perspectives
The speciality of this study is the notion that by modifying a single intrinsic feature of motor neurons, their calcium buffer capacity, both their internal resistance agains calcium-mediated toxicity, and the external neighboring inflammatory reaction could be influenced.
