What is it about?
Stem cell therapy has been used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus, but each center used different protocols in terms of type and source of cells, isolation and propagation method, cell passage, dose, route of administration, outcome measures, etc. This study compiled the results of various studies to know the protocol that gives the best result.

Why is it important?
If we know the best protocol, it can be standardized and used globally.
Perspectives
As efficacy of autologous BM-MNCs that were given via interventional route was comparable to Wharton jelly or umbilical cord MSCs that were given via intravenous (IV), Intra muscular (IM), or subcutaneous (SC) route, further controlled studies that compare BM-MNCs to BM-MSCs or WJ-MSCs or UC-SCs are recommended to prove their comparable efficacy. In addition, studies that compare various routes of administration (IV, IM or SC) versus the more invasive interventional routes are needed.
