Why is it important?

Over 1200 Crataegus species (Hawthorn) exist world wide. Medical properties (particularly speaking the heart toning ones) of the few Hawthorn species studied are well known to all and have been discussed in many articles. It is worth to get to know other species not yet studied.

Perspectives

Hawthorn seems to be full of mysteries. Antioxidant and anti-radical properties of only two of 1200 already known Hawthorn species (C. meyeri and C. pontica) were investigated in this paper and one other paper previously, published by CNF journal, in which we concluded the phenolic values of the seeds and the pulp of the two species are inversely proportional. The more species are studied the more secrets of this heavenly fruit will be revealed.
