What is it about?
Provide evidence to support conservative treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Featured Image
Why is it important?
Conservative treatment of AIS should be implemented, instead of plain observation, as soon as scoliosis is detected. There is evidence that scoliosis specific exercises improve spinal curvature in scoliosis patients.
Perspectives
The existing management of AIS less than 25 degrees is plain observation. This wait and see approach causes anxiety in patients and their parents. In view of the fact that there is evidence proving the effectiveness of scoliosis specific exercises in stabilizing and reducing spinal curvature in AIS patients, I do feel it important to adopt an active versus a passive management approach.
