What is it about?

The article focuses on the molecular context, where molecular biology techniques are used to analyze a unique schistosoma mansoni sequence and interact it with possibly binding ligands, in order to find the highest interaction and do docking studies. GTP was used in this study as it was previously postulated to bind the ADP-ribisylation factor protein and play a crucial role in the causative agent's survival.

Why is it important?

Many studies have shown the importance of ADP-ribisylation in many organisms, this study shows uniquely in schistosomes where it will be used to find a way to block the mechanism which the infection initiates with. The readers will find, in this article, an overview of the mechanism and how ADP-ribisylation can be used to block it so that drgs and vaccines can be created to treat or cure schistosomiasis.

Perspectives

Africans suffer from a lot of diseases and finding cures is of high importance. Schistosomiasis affects more Africans than other continents so doing thorough research on these diseases would make Africa a better place, hence the study on schistosome infection. Analysis of the molecules (NAD, NADPH, etc.) and ligands (GTP, ATP, etc) helps understand the actual mechanism of action of the infectious agents in schistosomiasis.
