Why is it important?
Working memory disturbances may be potential candidate to qualify as an endophenotypic marker for bipolar disorder. Finding such markers could help us increase our understanding of the ethiopathogenetic mechanisms of the disorder, implement screening procedures, improve diagnosis and target relevant treatments.
Perspectives
Neuroimaging studies and neurocognitive research are some of the most promising areas of investigation in neurosciences. As such they may be of vital importance for translating basic research to clinical understanding and practice.
