What is it about?

Current agricultural antifungals are harmful to people and the environment. In this work we seek to synthesize compounds from essential oil in order to reduce environmental and human health impacts. We obtained a promising compound against the black pepper fungus, which proved to be less toxic than one of the current commercial antifungals.

Why is it important?

Our work demonstrates that we can search for ecologically correct alternatives, safe in humans and effective in eliminating agricultural fungi without the need to expose fauna, flora, consumers and workers to potentially toxic antifungals. In addition, the use of natural by-products allows the maintenance of export contracts by reducing the levels of pesticide residues, as well as by not using them.

Perspectives

Producing part of this research and writing this article was pleasant, as I broadened my horizons in relation to the application of antifungals and the impacts caused by them. I expanded my area of ​​knowledge and performance. I met people who collaborated and collaborate with current research. And the most important thing is that we carry out research with a strong environmental impact and as a researcher that is what matters. I research to provide a return to society, even if small, and this work is only the tip of the iceberg. So, the most important thing is that you find this article thought-provoking and get to know what research is done for society.
