What is it about?
An outstanding and highly cited review into the use of lipids to stimulate the immune system to mount immune responses against peptide-based vaccines.

Why is it important?
We need new vaccines, and lipid-based adjuvants have proven to be extremely efficient at stimulating various types of immune responses including antibodies and cytotoxic lymphocytes. Further, when combined with peptide antigens, lipid-based adjuvants can be readily incorporated into the vaccine during the routine synthetic processes.
Perspectives
The conjugation of lipid-based adjuvants with peptide antigens offers an exciting means to produce potent, self-adjuvanting vaccines, with the potential for needle free mucosal delivery.
