What is it about?

Gears are mechanical components that are found in many consumer, commercial, industrial, and military devices and products. They help transmit motion and power from one point to another in a device. The revision accounts for factors that were not included in Lewis' model and provides means of evaluating gear load influence factors.

Why is it important?

Gears ensure efficient and economical transmission of motion and power in a small space or volume. Modern machinery technology is inconceivable without the use of gears.

Perspectives

Designing and manufacturing new gears with greater power transmission density is a challenge that needs new ways of thinking and applying "old" knowledge.
