What is it about?

Evening primrose oil is widely available around the world and many have testified of it's benefits to alleviate menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood/ sleep or sexual disorders etc. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to gather robust evidence regarding its effectiveness to guide clinicians and menopausal women on it's use and safety.

Why is it important?

Through this systematic review and meta analysis, it was found that evening primrose oil may reduce the severity of overall menopausal symptoms but was not effective to specifically reduce the frequency and severity of vasomotor symptoms.


The evidence quality from the five randomized controlled trials included in this review and meta analysis ranged from very low to moderate (GRADE). Thus, further research regarding evening primrose oil in menopausal women is needed to enhance related evidence.
