What is it about?

We have studied the mucus of a type of snakehead fish (Channa striata), also locally known as haruan. Using advanced proteomics, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics technologies, we have extracted, identified and explored the functionally important proteins from the mucus. These proteins were found to be involved in wound healing pathways, which confirms the traditional practice of consuming this fish for health purposes.

Why is it important?

The fish has been consumed traditionally for many generations. A number of modern health products based on the fish also has been introduced. However, not much is not about the mechanisms of the wound healing properties contributed by the fish to human. study of this fish can lead to better modern products based on this fish.

Perspectives

There are so many potential in this fish. More research is currently being studied to explore and confirm other medicinal properties of this fish.
