What is it about?
Since 1965, Phytolacca dodecandra L’Herit (Endod) has been a research focus around the world mainly due to its pronounced activities against vectors that cause schistosomiasis. Scientists have identified many useful metabolites from the plant with promising potentials in drug discovery. In this review, we comprehensively reviewed the major phytochemicals isolated from the plant and their pharmacological activities.

Why is it important?
The World Health Organization recognized schistosomiasis as one of the neglected tropical diseases and scientists are still looking for promising drugs/vaccines/treatments. This review will typically provide possible alternatives and a re-think on the potential of the plant and its phytochemicals in this regard.
Perspectives
Writing this review article was a great pleasure as I have a hand-on experience on the traditional values of the plant. Besides, I believe that the plant will regain its popularity and ultimately provide promising alternatives in schistosomiasis research.
