What is it about?

This review discusses the physiological role of heme oxygenase in the skin. Figure 1. is dedicated to summarize the known processes within the skin that are associated with HO-function. Moreover, skin conditions in which altered HO function might be relevant are also summarized. As HO can be induced, known inducers that have been already tried at any level (in vitro, animal etc) of significance, are also collected in a table and mentioned in relevant subchapters.

This is most probably the first thematic review that is focused on heme oxygenase regarding its function in the skin. It is relevant for experimental and clinical dermatology.
